Delicately sweet organic beans from the birthplace of coffee! Sweet juicy body, mild acidity and strawberry flavours – aromas of jasmine tea and creamy mouthfeel.
Sidamo is a town in the Western highlands of Ethiopia, the natural indigenous habitat of the celebrated Arabica coffee tree. Our smooth Ethiopian Sidamo coffee is made from the finest Arabica beans, grown exclusively in the Sidamo Province. These small, thin, greyish beans are highly valued for their intense flavours of spice and wine, with hints of chocolate, while the deep, floral aromas, mild strength and bright, crisp acidity make them ideal for delicious filter coffees at any time of the day .
Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU) was founded in 2001 to represent coffee producing cooperatives in Sidama Zone of southern Ethiopia. Today, SCFCU has grown to represent 57 primary cooperative societies and over 80,000 farmers (small holders), making SCFCU the second largest coffee producing cooperative union in Ethiopia. 41 primary cooperatives with 86,658 coffee farmer members are Fairtrade certified. Nearly all coffee produced by member cooperatives is shade grown in low densities under the canopies of indigenous trees and ‘enset’ (false banana), a staple food crop.
Members of SCFCU have been growing and processing Sidama type coffee for more than 35 years and are now exporting high-quality traceable coffee directly to overseas buyers. The union produces approximately about 10,000 tons of high-quality Organic Arabica beans per year, 95% of which is washed. Sidama type coffee is known throughout the world for its rich variety of coffees and cup profiles
